Our approach to garden design is led by plants and grounded in horticultural knowledge, bringing together space, proportion and natural materials to create gardens that belong to their place.
INITIAL CONSULTATION
An initial meeting on site to understand its setting and the client’s vision for the garden. We discuss how the garden will be used and experienced, its character and the practical requirements that will shape the brief.
SITE ASSESSMENT
A closer reading of the site and its particular qualities. Aspect, soil, existing vegetation, architecture, views and the surrounding landscape are considered to establish the opportunities and direction for the design.
CONCEPT DESIGN
The first expression of the garden as a whole. Space, proportion, movement, planting and materials are brought together to establish the character and structure of the design.
DESIGN DEVELOPMENT & DOCUMENTATION
The concept is developed and resolved in greater detail. Planting, materials and key elements are refined and translated into the plans and information required to guide the making of the garden.

Following the design process, Verder Gardens can assist with the implementation of the garden, from finding suitable landscape contractors to providing design oversight and liaising with associated trades throughout the project.
We offer plant sourcing, set-out and installation, with particular attention to plant selection and placement to ensure the original design intent is carried through to completion.
-
We care for gardens with respect for their original design and an understanding that a garden is never finished, but continues to grow and evolve.
Through observation, horticultural knowledge and considered intervention, we guide and refine the garden as it matures, with close attention to plant health and the development of the planting.
Where additional expertise is required, we can engage and coordinate trusted landscapers, arborists and other specialist contractors to support the ongoing care and development of the garden.
-
Consultations offer focused design and horticultural advice, addressing particular needs or opportunities within a garden.
Drawing on both design experience and horticultural knowledge, we provide guidance on garden layout, planting and specific horticultural concerns, as well as opportunities to improve and develop the garden over time.
